A convoy arrives at your gate at eight in the morning. Police, labour inspectors, immigration officials, politicians, a camera crew, and a crowd of people who will not say who they are.

This is what Government’s nationwide blitz inspection campaign looks like in practice. Production stops, and customers are turned away. Owners are shouted at before a single question is asked.

Employers need to be clear on one point: labour inspectors and immigration officers have a right of entry. Ministers, deputy ministers, members of parliament and members of an inter-ministerial committee do not. Anybody who forces their way onto your property outside those rules is trespassing, whatever title they hold.

The businesses being treated as the enemy here are the ones that create jobs, pay salaries, and fund the state. When enforcement is run by mob and camera crew, it stops being enforcement and becomes intimidation.
