Various organisations are currently calling for the mass deportation of undocumented foreign nationals in South Africa. In response to the immigrant problem, Government has responded with a National Labour Migration Policy, a revised White Paper on immigration, and a plan to appoint 10,000 new labour inspectors to target those employing undocumented foreign nationals.
 
The problem of illegal immigrants is the byproduct of a failed government that chose not to act on illegal immigration for decades. The same government now wants to conduct a multi-sector enforcement campaign against millions of embedded undocumented workers. They will only succeed in harassing compliant employers.
 
Government does not have the institutional capability or will to fix what it has broken.
