MEIBC Employers: You have two days to stop this.

Dear employer

Large employers in the metal and engineering sector concluded a three-year wage agreement in 2024.

They are now moving to extend that agreement to every employer in the sector, including businesses that never signed it, that never took part in the negotiations, or that cannot afford it. 

Upon extension, entry-level employees must be paid a minimum of R99 per hour cost-to-company, even more for skilled employees in higher grades.

The mechanism is a vote at the MEIBC. If the vote succeeds, extension is automatic, legal, and binding.

NEASA is opposing the extension. But to do so successfully, we need more employers in this sector, who collectively employ at least 25 000 additional workers, to join NEASA. We need to reach that number before 30 June.

That is two working days from today.
