HAVE YOUR SAY: Has your business been targeted by Department of Labour Inspectors: Survey.

Dear employer

Following the unlawful inspectionwhich occurred at Normandien Farms in KwaZulu-Natal by inspectors of the Department of Employment and Labour, accompanied by members of the Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour (the Committee), Department of Home Affairs, Cosatu, and armed members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), NEASA calls on employers to complete a short survey to establish the frequency regarding inspections conducted in such an unlawful and lawless manner.

This inspection which occurred was not a legitimate labour inspection. It was simply put an unlawful abuse of power by Members of Parliament. The members blatantly forced open a security gate, ignored critical foot-and-mouth disease protocols, and directed racist verbal abuse at senior staff.

The actions from these Members of Parliament, labour inspectors, Home Affairs, SAPS, and Cosatu which transpired during the Normandien inspection violated law, common sense, and are indicative of the lack of understanding of the obligations they have towards employers in South Africa.
