Consequences Of Implementing A National Minimum Wage


Following a recent piece NEASA CE Gerhard Papenfus published on the consequences of implementing a National Minimum Wage, Motsweding FM – one of South Africa’s largest radio stations – got in touch with Mr Papenfus and interviewed him on this topical issue this morning (16 July).

With the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) demanding a National Minimum of wage of R7000, Mr Papenfus expressed his sentiments on the minimum wage issue, explaining that higher wage thresholds will simply lead to job losses and provide no lasting benefit to South Africa’s economy and workforce.


The interview includes three phone-ins from listeners, where two agreed with Mr Papenfus’ views and the other commented on the cost of living being problematic. Note that the phone-ins were conducted in Setswana. To listen to the full interview, click on the following links:
