NEASA succeeds in its urgent application against the MEIBC in Labour Court
25 September 2014
The Labour Court in Johannesburg has granted interim relief following an urgent application by the National Employers’ Association of South Africa (NEASA) to prevent the Metal and Engineering Bargaining Council (MEIBC) from requesting the Minister of Labour to extend the July 2014 agreement between the federation Seifsa and trade unions, to parties/employers who were not party to that agreement. This judgement prevents the MEIBC from approaching Minister Mildred Oliphant with the request to extend.
‘The Court’s decision is a major victory for NEASA’s bid to stop the parties from having the Minister extend this detrimental agreement to the whole Industry,’ says Gerhard Papenfus, NEASA Chief Executive.
This judgement has prevented the MEIBC from bulldozing the Minister into extending the agreement to the whole Industry. The date to hear arguments for final relief has been set for 4 November.
