STEEL INDUSTRY: The effect of the toxic combination of IMPORT DUTIES and AMSA's INABILITY TO SUPPLY THE STEEL DOWNSTREAM
The effect of the
toxic combination of
IMPORT DUTIES
and
AMSA’s INABILITY TO SUPPLY
THE STEEL DOWNSTREAM
Below are more business responses
- Our business has been severely affected. We are unable to get the usual stock items. If found by small steel distributors it is at premium pricing. A number of our long-standing customers’ doors have been closed. AMSA has been a huge monopolistic enterprise that increases prices far too often for the downstream to remain viable, which is aggravated by unlawful duties given by the government.
- We must modify steel sections, which might not even be accepted by our clients; which means serious loss and effect on future business.
- We cannot get any of the steel we require. We only use .8 and 1.2 cold-rolled sheeting and small size tubing. 19mm and 25.4 mm totally unavailable. My business has been operating since 1973. Never have I experienced such a fiasco. I have gone from 46 employees down to 5 and if I can’t get steel will have to close my doors until we can get steel again.
They are killing the steel industry. I cannot understand why all the big merchants can’t get together and demand answers from the Minister. Not requests, DEMANDS. After all, he is only a public servant.
How is AMSA’s inability to supply the market affecting your business?
