Steel Industry: Additional Safeguard Duties of 60%
STEEL INDUSTRY
ADDITIONAL SAFEGUARD DUTIES OF 60%
AMSA, SUPPORTED BY SAFAL, LAUNCHES APPLICATION
Dear Steel Industry employer
AMSA, supported by SAFAL Steel, has launched an application with the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) for the implementation of additional safeguard duties on galvanised steel coil and aluminium-zinc coated steel coils of 60%, in addition to the existing 10% duties.
This is in a bid to protect and save AMSA and SAFAL against the importation of affordable steel products by the steel downstream.
If these duties are imposed, South Africa may as well wave goodbye to what is left of the steel downstream, and nearly solely rely on a crippled AMSA to carry its entire steel manufacturing industry.
This action, if imposed by ITAC, can only be deemed as extremely reckless and in complete disregard for the survival of the South African steel downstream.
All employers in the Steel Industry affected by the duties are granted an opportunity to object against the implementation thereof, until 6 February 2025.
Should you wish to oppose these duties, please complete this form immediately.
