Possible National Shutdown Looming

POSSIBLE NATIONAL SHUTDOWN LOOMING

Dear employer

The rumour mill has it that a number of Taxi Associations, with the support of the EFF, will be staging a national shutdown on 10 June 2022.
 
Although not confirmed, the possibility exists that such a shutdown may well occur which will have implications for employers and employees.
 
Employers are advised that, should employees be unable to report for duty due to such a national shutdown of roads, the employer will not be entitled to discipline such employees due to absenteeism.
 
However, since the employee is not able to tender his/her services, the ‘no-work-no-pay’ rule will apply.
 
We will inform members should further information on the shutdown become available.
