PLASTICS INDUSTRY

NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

Dear Plastics Industry employer

The parties to the Plastics Negotiation Forum (PNF) met on 20 November 2018 in an attempt to settle the dispute in the Plastics Sector.

The employer parties indicated that the offer, made more than a week ago, was a final offer and that there was no further room for improvement. The offer was rejected by NUMSA and consequently the negotiation session did not continue any further.

Therefore, the strike and lock-out in the sector remain in place.

We have received a number of reports that regional NUMSA offices have approached employers to settle the dispute at plant level or that employees have indicated that they wish to return to work.

Since this is a national issue, under the auspices of the MEIBC (PNF), this dispute cannot be settled at plant level.

However, should employers wish to allow their employees back at work, employers are advised to contact their NEASA Regional office for advice in this regard.

Kind Regards
