New minimum wage for contract cleaning in 2015

NEW MINIMUM WAGE FOR CONTRACT CLEANING IN 2015

Following an announcement by Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant, the wages of South Africa’s contract cleaning employees’ have been adjusted with effect from 6 January 2015.
 
In terms of the Sectoral Determination prescribing minimum wages in the contract cleaning sector, a worker shall earn a minimum wage of R16.98 per hour in Area A. That includes the Metropolitan Councils of the City of Cape Town, Ekurhuleni, City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane and Nelson Mandela Bay and also the Local Councils of Emfuleni, Merafong, Mogale City, Metsimaholo, Randfontein, Stellenbosch and Westonaria.
 
In Area B the rates applicable are those as prescribed by the Kwa-Zulu Natal Contract Cleaning Bargaining Council.
 
In Area C (which includes the rest of South Africa) the minimum rate per hour will be R15.47.

The new minimum wage will be binding with effect from 06/01/2015 up to 30/11/2015.
