NEASA FILES APPLICATION FOR LEAVE TO APPEAL

Dear Steel Industry employer
 
As previously communicated, the Labour Court, on 31 August 2022, dismissed NEASA’s and SAEFA’s application for an interdict against and review of the decision of the MEIBC to request the Minister of Employment and Labour to extend the Seifsa/NUMSA main agreement to non-parties.
 
NEASA is of the view that the Labour Court erred in a number of respects in its judgement and that the judgement cannot be allowed to stand unchallenged.
 
Consequently, NEASA and SAEFA have filed an application for leave to appeal at the Labour Court, and, should leave to appeal be granted, we will request that the matter be set down for an urgent appeal.

We believe that it is in the interest of our members and the majority of employers in the Steel Sector to have this judgement set aside.
