MINISTER CALLS FOR PUBLIC COMMENT

Dear Steel Industry employer
 
As previously communicated, the MEIBC on 3 August 2022, requested the Minister of Employment and Labour to extend the Seifsa/Numsa Main Agreement to all non-parties in the Industry.
 
NEASA filed an urgent application in the Labour Court requesting the Court to interdict the Minister from processing the request until such time as the validity of the request to the Minister has been determined by the Court. The Labour Court dismissed the application on 31 August 2022 and we are currently considering available legal avenues in this regard.
 
Subsequent to the application being filed, the Minister proceeded to publish a request for public comment. NEASA will be submitting comment in respect thereof.
 
Any employer who wishes to submit comment as to why the agreement should not be extended may do so by sending their comments to Sellinah.Mahlangu@labour.gov.za by 13 September 2022. We request that NEASA be copied in any correspondence sent to the Department of Employment and Labour at charis@neasa.co.za
