MINIMUM WAGE ADJUSTMENT

SUBMISSIONS REQUIRED

Dear employer

The National Minimum Wage Commission has tabled a report proposing significant increases in the minimum prescribed wage for employees.

Should the proposal be accepted, the new minimum monthly wages, for a 45-hour workweek, will be as follows:

General wage: R4 227 per month (an increase of R182.00 per month)
Farmworkers: R4 227 per month (an increase of R588.00 per month)
Domestic workers: R3 719 per month (an increase of R686.00 per month)

The proposal allows a period for public comment and it is extremely important for employers to weigh in on the debate as they will be expected to carry this additional burden.
