The Minister of Employment and Labour has gazetted a new National Minimum Wage, effective 1 March 2023.

The new minimum wage has increased to R25,42 per hour and is applicable to all employees who fall under the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, as well as domestic- and farm workers.

This amounts to a staggering 9.62% increase, way above the inflation rate applicable at the time of determination. 

The wage rates for the wholesale and retail sector and employees on learnerships have also been increased.
