Dear Steel Industry employer
The extended MEIBC Consolidated Main Agreement became applicable to non-parties as of 17 October 2022.
The wage rates and conditions of employment as determined by this Agreement will be devastating for many businesses should they be forced to implement them.
However, employers do have the option to apply for exemption from this Agreement on a number of grounds. Therefore, employers are advised to obtain guidance from NEASA in respect of the exemption process and not to implement the provisions of the Agreement prior to obtaining such advice.

NEASA’s legal challenge of this unlawful extension is currently before the Courts.
