EXEMPTIONS DEADLINE

Dear Steel Industry employer
 
The MEIBC Consolidated Main Agreement determines that applications for exemptions from LEP should reach the relevant regional council by no later than 31 October 2022.
 
However, it was agreed at the last Gauteng regional meeting that, due to the fact that the extension of the Agreement only became effective on 17 October 2022, applications for exemption from LEP will be accepted until 17 November 2022 without the need for a condonation application.
 
The MEIBC undertook to adopt this approach in all regions.
 
Employers who wish to apply for exemption from LEP should ensure that these applications reach their relevant regional council before this date.
 
Although it will still be possible to lodge the application after 17 November, it will become more difficult to succeed with the application as condonation for late filing will first have to be obtained.
