EXTENSION REQUEST

FOR THE ADMINISTRATION LEVIES AGREEMENT

SET ASIDE

Dear Steel Industry employer

The Labour Court, on 28 November 2018, set aside the decision of the MEIBC to request the Minister of Labour to extend the Administration Levies Agreement to non-parties.

The Court will give reasons for its decision in due course.

The effect of this judgement is that the request to extend, which is currently before the Minister, is invalid and therefore cannot be acted upon by the Minister.

WHAT ABOUT THE MAIN AGREEMENT?

There is currently no request for extension in respect of the 2017 – 2020 Seifsa/NUMSA agreement before the Minister as the original request to extend was referred back by the Department of Labour to the MEIBC. The MEIBC has not resubmitted its request. We will keep members abreast of any further developments in this regard.

They won’t stop trying and we won’t stop foiling them. Eventually they will run out of resources – both in terms of tricks and money.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid now and then, but some people abuse the privilege.
