PROVIDENT FUND CONTRIBUTIONS

Dear Steel Industry employer

As previously communicated, there has not been a valid MEIBC wage agreement applicable to non-parties since 2011. This, by necessary implication, has the effect that there has been no minimum wages applicable to non-parties.

Therefore, all pension – or provident fund contributions should have been calculated on the wage actually earned at each individual workplace and not on the wage rates prescribed in the SEIFSA/NUMSA party agreements.

Any attempt by the MEIBC to enforce payment of contributions on the prescribed rates and not on the rates actually paid should be resisted.
