INDUSTRY STRIKE ACTION

Dear Industry Employer

Wage negotiations are set to continue on 5 and 6 July 2017. Should these negotiations fail – which seem likely – the unions may issue a notice of their intention to strike immediately.

However, NUMSA has been circulating correspondence to their members and local organisers indicating that, in order for them to mobilise their members, it is their intention to embark on strike action only after 27 July.

Although the veracity of this information is not above suspicion, it may be an indication of NUMSA’s intentions in this regard.

Employers may therefore assume that, should the dispute between the parties to the Council not be settled beforehand, the unions will only embark on full blown strike action after 27 July. However, we advise employers to remain vigilant and be prepared to deal with strike action before this date.

We will inform employers immediately should this situation change.
