INDUSTRY SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT CONCLUDED

Dear Industry Employer

As previously communicated the Road Freight Industry has, during the last couple of months, been involved in intense negotiations.

NEASA took the decision not to constantly bombard members with the progress of the negotiations seeing that the situation was very fluid and constantly changing.

However, the negotiations have now been concluded and the other parties to the Council signed a settlement agreement on 3 September 2015. NEASA has not signed this agreement as we need to obtain a mandate from our members to either accept or reject the agreement.

The agreement entails a 3 year period with the following across the board wage increases:
Year 1: 9%
Year 2: 8.5%
Year 3: 8.5%

The agreement also contains some increases in allowances which will have a different effect on individual employers depending on the structure of an employer’s workforce. The average cost to company in terms of the agreement has been calculated at 8.7% per annum over the 3 year period.

It should be noted that in terms of the Council’s constitution, the agreement will only be binding on employers, including those who signed the agreement, if the Minister of Labour extends the agreement to non-parties.
