The effect of the toxic combination of
IMPORT DUTIES
and
AMSA’s INABILITY TO SUPPLY
More business responses
- We were unable to obtain 25 x 50 x 2mm and 25 x 25 square tubing to manufacture our spa frames. We were, however, lucky enough to purchase 25 x 25 x 3mm so as to make a compromise, but it was at a hefty premium and has resulted in the spa frame being extremely heavy.
- Production is only running at about 70%. Our staff are on notice that short time could start at any time. We use a lot of tubing 1.6 & 2.0mm wall thickness. We scout around for stock between 4-5 suppliers. This is very stressful. Our price has also increased, and a big concern is the Chinese imports are now cheaper than ever. This gives an opportunity to a competitor. We are considering closing manufacturing and just become a distributor, which would be very sad.
- Cannot source material as required and then paying exorbitant prices when available. Also loss of business due to unavailability of stock in the time required by customer. After starting in 1979 and having a business for 40 years, it is a very sad state of affairs that we find ourselves in today.
As for the future – who knows as we are just taking it month by month.
