TERS PAYMENTS ALLEGEDLY SUSPENDED

Dear employer

We have previously communicated that the TERS benefits, for selected categories of employees, has been extended to 15 November, in line with the extension of the National State of Disaster.

This communication was based on a gazette published on 7 September 2020, by the Department of Employment and Labour, which stipulated that the TERS benefits will be available until the end of the National State of Disaster or until withdrawn by the Minister, neither of which has transpired.

The Minister of Employment and Labour, however, has subsequently denied that the benefits have been extended past 15 September 2020, contrary to the evidence, and on Friday informed NEDLAC, much to everybody’s surprise, that the benefits will not be extended.

Click here to view our press release in this regard.

It is clear that no applications for benefits past 15 September are currently being accepted but it is our understanding that discussions are continuing in this regard.

We will keep members abreast of developments.
