COVID-19 Regulations: Level 4 Lockdown: Our response
COVID-19 LOCKDOWN
OUR RESPONSE
Dear employer
To the extent that we are able to, NEASA will continuously provide you with simplified information to comply with all government’s demands which you must adhere to before you can open your business again.
We want you to know that we do not sheepishly convey this information to you. We, like many of you, are appalled by these regulations; some are vague, incoherent and entirely impractical, the result of thought processes of people who have never ‘done it’ before, and who, through all of this, enjoy full privileges. The economy simply does not function in the manner contemplated by the phasing-in approach.
This, however, merely illustrates how easy it is for bureaucrats to make rules based on complete misconception. The current scenario also illustrates why a socialistic approach always fails – bureaucrats simply cannot give economic direction; not of the type that succeeds. It also explains why socialist leaders are always totalitarian – clear and independent thinkers never support them.
So how do we respond to all of this – this irrational approach that threatens your livelihood? This is what we will do:
• we will not entertain anger, at least not for long. Anger as a result of stupidity is justified. Harbouring anger is not. Anger often originates in fear and destroys creativity and resolve;
• we will not have to defend every ball bowled at us. Sometimes the ball will miss the bat, others may hit us on the body; others right in the face. Sometimes we may be clean bowled, but we will come back in the next innings. We just won’t quit;
• even when we don’t know how to face the next ball, we still won’t quit. When we don’t know how to proceed, we will stand still, for a moment, until the storm passes. But we won’t quit; and
• we will constantly be on the lookout for the opportunity in the crisis; and with God’s help, we will get to the other side, stronger!
If you destroy a free market, you create a black market. If you make 10 000 regulations, you destroy all respect for the law.
Winston Churchill
