COVID-19: Post-lockdown preparedness guide

Dear employer

In a previous communique, we shared the Occupational Health and Safety directives, issued by the Department of Employment and Labour, in respect of call centres which are required to operate during the lockdown.

Although these directives are not for general application, it is our view that they may form the basis for directives to be applied by all businesses post-lockdown.

In addition to this, the Department issued a guideline (pre-lockdown) which employers may observe to safeguard their workplaces against possible outbreaks.

It may well be that these guidelines will again find application and may even become compulsory, once the lockdown is lifted, in order to mitigate the distinct possibility of further Covid-19 outbreaks.

Therefore, employers should already be preparing for much stricter OHS requirements after the lockdown and are advised to take note of the contents of the guidelines in order to start planning for implementation.
