Dear Gerhard

We are a manufacturer of steel products and we use around 500 ton of steel per annum (low user probably) but now, notwithstanding steel shortages, we cannot import because of the duties.

We also find that the importing of completed items (finished products) from China is now cheaper than manufacturing locally – as a result of the duties on the raw products and not on finished products.

Duties are killing manufacturing and forcing companies to retrench labour and import goods rather than supporting local employment and local purchases.
