BENEFIT EXTENDED

Dear employer

The Department of Employment and Labour has announced that the COVID-19 TERS benefit, which was due to expire at the end of June 2020, will be extended to 15 August 2020.

Therefore employers will still be able to claim for the month of July as well as, presumably, the first half of August 2020.

The amendment to the time period has not yet been gazetted and no information regarding when applications for July will open is currently available.

Although the announcement by the Department indicated that the benefit will operate in the same manner as it currently does, the accuracy of this statement is doubtful, as information from NEDLAC indicates that the benefit may well only be available for certain businesses, which still cannot open, or for specific employees.
