OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM IS COMING

Dear employer

The social partners at NEDLAC are currently in discussion regarding the implementation of a Covid-19 surveillance and reporting system in the workplace.

According to reports, certain employers will be required to provide specified information, on a daily basis, to the National Institute of Health which includes:

• information regarding vulnerable employees;
• information regarding daily symptom screening;
• Covid-19 test data;
• high-risk exposures; and
• post-infection outcomes.

It may be that only larger employers will be obliged to provide this information but there has been no confirmation of this.

Should this measure be implemented, it will place a further administrative and financial burden on already overwhelmed and overburdened employers. This will add to the frustration caused by Government’s lack of credibility resulting from the manner in which they approached the Covid-19 medical issue and the unjustified impact on the economy.
