COIDA Rules: Notice of Withdrawal Gazetted
COIDA RULES
NOTICE OF WITHDRAWAL GAZETTED
by Rona Bekker
Dear employer
NEASA, in a previous communique on 12 October 2021, indicated that the Office of the State Attorney wrote a letter regarding the intention of the Compensation Fund Commissioner to withdraw the contentious rules to the Compensation for Injury on Duty Act (COIDA) Amendment Bill. The rules were controversial and contradictory, and had the potential to destroy an entire industry and value-chain.
NEASA is glad to confirm that the notice of withdrawal was gazetted on Friday, 15 October 2021.
This serves as confirmation of the fact that employers and industry role players, when united, have the power to influence harmful destructive policies and legislation, arbitrarily enforced by government and its departments.
NEASA will continue to lobby government and campaign for the interest of employers across all industries.
Rona Bekker is a Senior Policy Advisor at the National Employers’ Association of South Africa (NEASA).
