Businesses in South Africa are facing new and extraordinary challenges. Waiting on others to offer solutions and the usual interventions no longer guarantee desired outcomes. It is within this context that the responsibility arises for business to play the role for which it is called and fulfil their destinies.

“Opportunity lurks where responsibility has been abdicated” (Jordan Peterson). It is therefore within this context of societal decay and failing state institutions that the responsibility (and therefore opportunity) of business comes to the fore.

This ‘responsibility’ does not take anything away from a business’ commercial activity, but rather elevates it – both in terms of substance and meaning. Without this elevated role of business, the fulfilment of its calling, society is neglected.
